UCAT
How to plan UCAT preparation around your actual weaknesses
Build a manageable routine, move from learning to timed practice, and make each session answer a specific question.

Find your starting point
Begin with the official test tour and question tutorials. Learn what each task asks before treating an early score as a judgement of your ability. The current UK test has Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement; old five-section plans need updating.
Use a small selection of questions to identify where the process breaks down. Are you misunderstanding instructions, choosing the wrong method, making arithmetic errors or spending too long on one task? A plan becomes useful when it names the problem it is meant to solve.
Give each session a job
Medify's preparation advice emphasises using performance information to target weaknesses. Put that principle into a realistic weekly plan with review time and breaks. There is no universal daily question quota that guarantees a score.
Here is an original Finesse planning example: Monday, diagnose percentage errors; Tuesday, practise choosing the correct denominator; Thursday, attempt fresh mixed numerical questions; Saturday, check whether that error is less frequent. Keep a short reading or reasoning session elsewhere in the week so one weakness does not take over the whole programme.
Add pressure after the method makes sense
Move from explaining a method without a clock to shorter timed sets, then longer practice as your test approaches. Use official practice to check that a skill transfers to the real question formats. When timing exposes a weakness, return to that specific step rather than repeatedly forcing a full test.
Keep your school's workload and your test date in view. Check current booking, identification and access-arrangement instructions directly with UCAT for your cycle; a study plan is not a substitute for those administrative steps.
- Write one learning objective before starting.
- Record accuracy and the main source of delay.
- Choose one correction and test it on fresh material.
- Leave room to rest and adjust the next session.
